High-End Setups Are Designed for the Vision S
I was pleasantly surprised by the HyperX Vision S Webcam's weight and feel in my hand as soon as I took it out of the box. The camera's all-metal construction feels high-end and deserving of its price, and the mount that attaches to your computer is substantial. The fact that the base of the mount has a 1/4-20 thread for attaching it to a tripod or ring light instead of just a stationary object was a thoughtful addition.I discovered right away that the USB-C cable is detachable! I've had my Logitech StreamCam for a few years, but it was taking up my only USB-C port on my desktop, which only has one on the back. The USB-C to USB-A cable that comes with the HyperX Vision S Webcam is detachable, which is pretty awesome. You can change the cord, add a longer one, or simply have more options.I immediately started comparing the HyperX Vision S to my existing streaming webcam, the Logitech StreamCam, as soon as I plugged it into my desktop. When comparing the two and adding more details to the scene (such as face light and RGB lights), the Vision S truly does outperform the StreamCam, despite initially appearing less sharp. Its performance in low light, though, is what really won me over.
Let's be honest. In order to allow the RGB
lights in your room to shine, many streaming setups are by nature dark.
Therefore, there's a good chance that the amount of light on your face may not
be as great as you'd like. Because the sensors on most webcams are so tiny,
their low-light performance is usually a drawback. The Vision S looks less sharp at first, but when you compare the
two and add more details to the scene (like face light and RGB lights), it
really does perform better than the StreamCam. What really impressed me,
though, was how well it performed in low light.Let's be truthful. Many
streaming setups are dark by design so that the RGB lights in your room can
shine. As such, there's a good chance that your face doesn't have as much light
as you'd like.
The majority of webcams' tiny sensors make their low-light performance a drawback.
I was concerned that the magnetic privacy cover on the Vision S
might be difficult to use after reading a few other reviews. Perhaps it would be
difficult to align, detach, or attach? After utilizing the webcam, the privacy
cover is, well, as simple as one might anticipate. The cover always attached
the first time, even though it can occasionally hold on a little tighter than I
anticipated, requiring me to exert a little more force to remove it. When not
in use, your privacy is protected at all times. Because the cover is made of
metal, it feels high-end and is heavy in relation to its size.
For the Hyperx Vision S Webcam, Almost Any Capture Software Will Work
Although it ought to go without saying, I want to make this point clear. The HyperX Vision S webcam works with all of the main capture programs, such as StreamLabs, OBS, and others. Additionally, it workswith Zoom, Teams, Discord, and other video conferencing services, so you can be sure that it will perform flawlessly on both Windows and macOS.
Superb Low- and No-Light Capabilities Make This the Perfect Streaming Camera
I would be delighted to replicate the low-light capabilities of the Vision S with my DSLR. I love it. The scene was almost perfectly lit, with the only ambient light in the room coming from a wall light and my 27-inch monitor. Although there was some overcompensation in the background shadows, it still looked amazing overall. When there wasn't much light in the space, I wouldn't have any trouble meeting with coworkers, conducting a job interview, or even streaming with it in its current state. But things really took off when I switched on my desk's ring light and added some RGB ambient lighting in the background. I think the best way to use the webcam is with the overhead light off, some ambient lighting in the background, and some gentle front lighting shining on your face from behind your monitor. I believe the Vision S camera will greatly impress you overall if you have this setup.Autofocus is in the same category as low-light performance, and this camera does a great job of it even in dark environments. The autofocus has never given me any trouble because it can easily track my face and keep me focused. The Vision S has a manual focus option that could be useful if you're using it as a top-down camera to record a desk because it would allow you to make sure that everything remains in focus even if your hands move.
Integration with Windows Hello Is a Nice Touch
The camera's support for Windows Hello is a very nice
addition, and something I wasn't expecting to find. I don't think streaming
cameras had that feature because my Logitech StreamCam doesn't have it.
Although Windows Hello requires the privacy lens to be turned off (or removed)
in order to work, having this feature is still quite convenient. I would
probably not have the privacy cover on much because my office is in a different
room of the house and I only use it for work. This would allow me to use
Windows Hello face recognition rather than entering a PIN into my computer
every time. I want to unlock 1Password or
log into the computer.
